The Ten Shaolin Laws

The Ten Shaolin Laws are non-religious, and transcend all cultures and races, i.e. people of any culture and race would agree that they promote values that are worthy and desirable. Laws, in the Shaolin tradition, are not meant to be punitive or restrictive, but as practical means to help followers achieve set aims and objectives; in this case to help them attain the best possible results in practising Shaolin Kungfu for combat efficiency, joyful living, mind expansion, and spiritual fulfilment.

There is no legal binding on the Ten Shaolin Laws; one cannot be prosecuted in a law court if he breaks these laws. The binding is moral. But they are not forced upon the follower; the follower accepts them because he chooses to, because he believes they are helpful to him in his physical, emotional, mental and spiritual cultivation. If he breaks the laws, despite sufficient warnings, he may be asked to leave the Shaolin training, not as a punishment, but because the training is not suitable for him.

ABOUT DRAGON IN ZEN COURSE

COURSE OVERVIEW :

How is Zen related to Shaolin Kungfu and Chi Kung ?

Zen here refers to Mind training.  And Dragon symbolizes the Mind.

Many people, including some Zen students, may be unaware of the following two historical facts.  One, all schools of Zen today issued from the Shaolin Monastery.  Two, Shaolin Kungfu started as a result of Zen.

Shaolin Kungfu and Zen, as well as Chi Kung, are intimately connected, although some kungfu instructors today may not know this connection, and therefore teach Shaolin Kungfu as a purely external art, deprived of its internal and spiritual aspects.

At its elementary level, every kungfu movement involves energy control and mental awareness. At its advanced level, chi kung and Zen enable kungfu masters to develop abilities which other martial artists may not even dream of.

"Dragon in Zen" is a short set, but it includes all four categories of attack and their defence. More significantly, it contributes to good health, vitality, longevity, peak performance and spiritual joys.

COURSE AIMS :

The Dragon In Zen course is amazing.  In just three days course participants learn  :-

1. Chi Kung skills for good health and vitality.

2. Basic kung fu patterns and internal force development for self defense and daily living.

3. Mind training for mental clarity and mental strength .

WHO CAN APPLY This course is suitable for Adults with prior knowledge of chi kung who wish to elevate their skills and deepen their practice in this life changing Art.

COURSE SYLLABUS :

1   Shaolin Cosmos Chi Kung : Skills to relax, focus, generating energy flow
2   Shaolin Kung Fu : Dragon in Zen set , Internal force training , combat application
3

Zen or Mind Taining : The Six Harmonies , Moving Meditation, Standing Meditation

It is a well-known fact that our intensive courses are really intensive, covering many important areas in some depth within a very short time. The teaching, however, is methodical and systematic, enabling you to progress from scratch to fairly advanced levels. You need not have prior experience in the various areas mentioned above, but you need to be able to perform basic Shaolin Kungfu patterns (even just their external forms) reasonably well before attending the course.  And when you have returned home you need to practice what you have learnt so that the benefits can become lasting.

VIDEO AND PICTURE SERIES NOTES :

It will be a great help to you if you familiarize yourselves with these forms or routines before you attend the course. You need not be perfect in them, as fine-tuning will be done during the course, but it will be very helpful if you can perform them without worrying about the accuracy of their forms and sequencing of their order, so that during the course you can focus on developing skills rather than learning forms. But if you have difficulty doing so, don't worry. You will learn them systematically during the course. These video clips and picture series will serve as useful source material for reference.

DRAGON IN ZEN 龍拳 IN VIDEO

This set was composed by Grandmaster Wong Kiew Kit for those who wish to practice Zen by performing a kungfu set. It was posted in his book, "The Complete Book of Zen", published in 1998.

Two new patterns are added in this set, namely "Fell Tree with Roots" and "Old Eagle Catches Snake". The addition is to make complete with all the four categories of attack, i.e. striking, kicking, felling and chin-na. Previously the set consisted only of striking and kicking techniques.
